"She's too ambitious!" - How it that a bad thing in this case? We've had ambitious MALE VPs before. That wasn't considered at bad thing for them. Maybe with the one exception of Dick Cheney.
"She attacked Biden in that debate last year!" - He is still polling strongly and won the election. In the meantime, she struggled not long after through the rest of her campaign. It's a lesson for Trump, going where Kamala went will not go well for you!
"Her Attorney General record!" - So, the "law and order" President is going to hypocritically attacker her "tough on crime" record, really? Her Senate record should help a lot of iffy black voters feel better about her.
The key words in all of those attacks are "she" and "her". These are places no one would go for a man. It's just one reason Kamala rocks for VP! She can take it. She can also fight back. She's strong. That is actually a good thing for a leader of ether gender to posses.
This is where I point something out. For many months now we have known Biden is the nominee-to-be and that his VP would be a woman. For that same time Kamala Harris was a top name on that list. Yet, that whole time, he has out polled Trump everywhere. That includes in electoral college polls. If Americans had trouble with a female VP, he wouldn't be polling that strongly. Thanks to the #metoo movement and the Women's Marches. A female VP is not seen as something that will drag the Presidential candidate down. Hilary did win the popular vote, after all. A different woman candidate in 2016 may have won the Presidency.
Pence is going to feel like a defendant Kamala has a lot of physical evidence against when they debate. There are a lot of things he will have to answer to. There will be a lot of uncomfortable questions he can't answer. Remember, another person will have to be in the room with them when they debate. He isn't alone with a woman not his wife. Good thing for the moderators!
She is brilliant! She is in the ideal age range to run as the "substitute incumbent" in 2024. She is a moderate with just enough of a progressive record to hold progressive voters. She is mostly moderate. But, she has pushed a progressive agenda as her campaign started. Warren progressives might be good with her. She is black so the black community is getting the rise they deserve. She is also used to working with the Senate. That is an important job for the VP.
She is tough on crime and racism! She is close with Joe Biden as he hoped. She has a strong national name. She is willing to learn from Biden and has a strength in compromise. This is why Biden chose Kamala. She checks a lot of boxes.
We are about to be sensory overloaded with good and bad things about Kamala. All over people will have opinions. She will be attacked and most of them will be from frightened men. Every insult about her will be about men who are afraid of being "beaten by a girl" A chauvinism often denied but always unsubtle. The worse the attacks, the more they are overcompensating. I look forward to her approach to handling all of these attacks.
The good will be about "female empowerment" and how this historic nomination should have happened a long time ago. We as a country weren't ready then. Are we ready now? The next few months will reveal a lot. It will reveal what our values truly are. Have we indeed matured? Or, are we the country version of Peter Pan?
As a country, are we really that anti-woman that the worst president ever will be re-elected because too many can't bring themselves to support a woman? Will they look for the excuse of this year's version of "lock her up"? Will there just be something intangible about her that pushes voters away?
Or, is this the year that breaks us. Is this the year when people say "I don't care what gender she is, this is still the ticket that can fix this mess Trump has gotten us into!" Hopefully, that's what happens. Hopefully, it isn't about the words "she" and "her". Hopefully, it's about "They can fix literally everything about the federal government because Trump has managed to break all of it!" Who can save America? Answer below:
