A Kid's Covid Perspective

There are a lot of things written by adults about the Covid quarantine experience. There are a lot of adults making decisions for kids. Should they play sports? Should they be in the school building? I decided to ask Zach to be a guest blogger. It's time we get a kid's perspective on all things Covid. The part in blue will be from Zach. He is 11.

Let me get one thing clear, home schooling is hard but needed and perfect for this quarantine time. Although, as hard as it is, home schooling is also very soothing. The reason why I say that is because, if you have trouble with a topic and need to think, and you are not in a zoom or a google meet you can relax on your bed and just think. I love seeing my mom during the school day so much. If we did go to the building we aren't just putting ourselves in danger we are putting our families and teachers in danger too. This also means that everyone close to you is in danger. Especially the elderly. This is why I'm happy to be in home school for at least the start of the year.

Some of my friends have been exited to do some sports but in my mind sports including, baseball, Football, and basketball are dangerous. I am worrying because I have friends who are forced to play sports which means they have a higher chance of getting Covid.

In May, me and my family realized this year is going to be a hot year. So, one of the first summer fun things we bought was a blow up pool! We started using it and have needed to use a spare but it was very fun! (the picture above is me in the pool) Having a pool like this also allowed us to have a vacation at my grandparents house. It was very fun and we enjoyed it a lot.

And that's it! a kid perspective on Covid life. Hopefully if you are a parent, now you know what some kids are thinking. I have been enjoying time with my family. I still see friends on google meets and in video games. I do miss seeing everyone in person. Once, I had a friend come for an "at a distance" chat hang out. That was nice. We will do that again. I'd rather not go anywhere and be safe then risk getting something so serious.

Mom is back! I know it's hard to keep going with the restrictions. As the parents and teachers debate schools opening, it's important to know what the kids are feeling. Are they afraid to go back? Can they really wear a mask all day without taking it off? I have news for you! Adults can't even wear a mask all day without taking it off. That isn't going to happen with kids. A lot of the parents that want their kids in school want that for childcare. They might find that not possible. In our town the kids are only going to be in the building one day a week. At least the ones with parents who decided they want their kids in school. What are they going to do the rest of the time? Was that worth risking the health of our teachers and staff? Zach will be completely remote learning at least in the beginning. He was relieved to hear that is the option we chose.
