Missing People

June 4th was the 3rd anniversary of when Kyron Horman went missing. I always pay attention to missing people articles so if I see one I can report it. I can't imagine the pain these families go through when a loved one disappears. Especially, if it becomes a case where they are gone a long time. There is something about Kyron that has always stood out with me.

Here's a refresher. He was an 7 year old second grader at Skyline Elementary in Portland, Oregon. The last person to see him was his Step-Mom, Terri Horman as he "waved goodbye in the hallway after a science fair". Terri hasn't officially been named a "person of interest" but there is enough about her that makes you wonder WHY she's not a person of interest. She tried to hire a landscaper as a Hit Man to kill Kaine, her husband and Kyron's father. She also had a 14 month old daughter and suffered from Post Partum Depression. And she hired a lawyer right away. You don't hire a lawyer when you haven't been caught yet unless you have something to hide.

Normally, Post Partum Depression isn't a reason to consider someone a possible murderer but as I read about these missing kids I learn that usually the kidnapper/murderer is a Step-Parent or Boyfriend/Girlfriend of one of the child's Parents. In most cases, it's from jealousy. The child is a result of a past usually-serious relationship. Some people can't handle that.

Instincts told me early on that this will take years. Those are the most heartbreaking stories, the ones where the body is found years later. The worst are when it takes decades to find the body like with Etan Katz. Etan was the first kid to appear on a milk carton. As with a lot of kidnapped kids, he was waiting for a school bus. That seems to be the most popular time for kids to disappear, going to school or coming home. That needs to be addressed. Maybe more police officers need to be along common routes during heavy "to and from school" times of day. Kids that decide to take out of the way routes know they might be putting themselves in danger. At least they will if taught about that danger.

Zach's birthday is June 5th and as you can see Kyron disappeared the day before Zach's first birthday. Maybe that's why Kyron stands out. They all stand out in their own way. Susan Cox Powell is another case that stands out.

Her husband, Josh Powell, wasn't immediately a "person of interest" but became one. His story never added up to me. He claimed to take their 2 and 4 year old sons camping at midnight as an alibi. Who takes kids that young camping at midnight? You might start a camping trip in the evening but not midnight. The 4 year old later drew a picture of their car and told his teacher "Mommy's in the trunk". Susan also remains unfound but sadly Josh Powell killed himself and the boys in a house fire and with an ax as police came closer to charging him. That was in February of 2012. Susan disappeared in December of 2009. I still don't understand why he used the ax too.

Susan remains missing. This is a common story for missing women. If the husband/Baby Daddy/Boyfriend is abusive and insane the woman goes missing when the relationship is ending. Usually, it's because of an upcoming custody battle.

"A lack of recovery of anything just indicates he's out there somewhere and there's still a good chance he is alive. We will continue to feel that way until someone proves otherwise," he added.
Kyron has blue eyes, light brown hair, and a big smile.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office at 503-988-4300.

Sometimes the story ends like the Ohio case, where the three women missing for 10 years were found alive. Usually, it doesn't end with good news. The longer it takes, the more likely they are dead. I don't know what would make someone do these things for sure but they happen and we need to find ways to stop that. I hope everyone missing returns home alive and soon but history says that can't happen. I'm sending out a virtual hug to all of those with missing loved ones and hope this post helps. Thank you to all law enforcement officials that look hard for the missing and their captures/murders. I hope this post helps in your search. I'll keep looking too.
