Zach's First Kid Party

Saumya just turned 1 and 4. She's a leap day baby. She's also the daughter of our Indian friends Umang and Rishi (who have the cutest 3 month old daughter, Cavia!!!). This being her first actual birthday (and them being very social) they had a big party for her. They are incredibly nice and know so many people it's great that they have a big house for entertaining. They just moved right before Cavia (Pronounced Ka-[lower case a]-vya) was born (both Engineers met my dad at work a very long time ago).

Anyway, Saumya had a party and is social like her parents. At 4, she's also in preschool. They hired this sing and dance entertainment group to come for a while. Zach had never been to a kid's birthday before. We really don't have family his age and last year he was the only kid at his party (Saumya and her parent's were in India at the time of his party). However, he is in preschool and used to other kids.

My parents just wouldn't leave him alone. He didn't cry but quietly watched the other kids play until he felt more comfortable. After that, my parents (especially Grandma!) wouldn't leave him with the other kids. But I knew he'd be fine. The kids got pizza and ice cream before the entertainment arrived. Unfortunately, Saumya cut the cake before the pizza so Zach, who LOVES pizza, didn't eat it. He opted to wait for the cake. While I don't think that was a good idea, cutting the cake before dinner, Umang was on a time budget so I understand her reasoning.

He loved the entertainment and while he danced and bounced with the other kids, I got to hold Cavia!!! Zach was 16 pounds at 3 months (although born a normal weight just fast growth as still happens). I haven't held a baby that little in years!!! When he saw me holding Cavia, he made me sit in one of the chairs for adults around the dance floor and watch him. He also sweet talked his Mommy into sharing her piece of cake with him even after he had his own!!! I wasn't ready to give her up yet but it was "cake for the adults" time and I found I really didn't like the Indian food for dinner. I did like this slightly spicy triangle things they made for appetizers but that was full of no-nos for the diet (peas and potatoes mostly) so I had to limit it. I needed the cake by then, getting dizzy.

We all had a great time and it was great to see Zach so happy! He loved the party and being with the other kids. Maybe next time Grandma and Pop will give him some space. I think they were just taking it all in.
