Father's Day/The Pop Tart Bandit

Father's Day

I think Josh enjoyed father's day, mostly. I added blueberries to our normal Sunday pancakes and we spent the morning goofing around as a family with lots of hugs, kisses, and laughs. This is where the mostly part comes in. I had been flirting with him mildly so he was trying to get Zach to play in his room so he can have "a few minutes alone with Mommy". Zach is very smart and while he didn't know specifics, he knew it was important to Daddy that he leave us alone. He made a game out of pretending to leave then coming back a few seconds later. Daddy got his time with Mommy but not as much as he'd like. It took over an hour before Zach caved. For lunch I made our Sunday burgers but also included cooked onions as a special treat for Josh. Then we went out as a family and for Zach's nap time drive. They took time alone together then we had dinner with my in-laws. It was fun.

Josh is a fabulous father. He loves caring for Zach. They grocery shop together on Saturday mornings and Josh is always talking about how great it is they are together. Josh also does bath and bedtime with him. It's so adorable watching Josh be a daddy. It makes me love him more every time. He's been practicing saying every body's names (in the family) with Zach.

The Pop Tart Bandit

We have a bandit. Pop tarts have been disappearing. For the last two days, I have had to open a new pack of pop tarts. Wait a minute, I opened a new one on Friday and Zach is only allowed to have one a day. But Josh hates the Brown Sugar Cinnamon. Zach can reach the drawer they are in but he can't open his door. Until Sunday when Josh tried to get him in there to get his alone time with Mommy and Zach broke out. Hummm, we don't have a gate for the kitchen yet since he didn't know how to open the door and we'll have to find a board (gates don't fit the bottom right, we tried). Maybe, Our Pop tart bandit is Zach? Josh says he's been throwing away the foil in the morning.

There hasn't been any signs that Zach is indeed doing it. No crumbs on his mattress or anything. Yet, he eats at night, that's why we keep a bowl of multi grain cheerios in his room with water. But the cheerios have been untouched for the last two days, and the pop tarts have been missing.

When does he do it? We go to bed around 11 and I tend to wake up at 1:30 and/or 3:30 then at 4:30-5:30 for a snack (when Josh wakes up for work usually at 5) So it must be a 12-2am kind of thing. He is going so quietly and we have our door open. Why don't we hear him? Time to find a board.

This isn't the first time we've jokingly used the "bandit" label. When he started crawling we would see a burp cloth in the middle of a mess and know who created it. We called him the burp cloth bandit. The pop tart bandit part though is more accurate since he's actually taking something.
