There is something curious about Trump's lawyer's asking for a "special master" to go through the documents the FBI took on August 8th. The whole purpose of the "special master" is to make sure that "his" documents get returned.
Trump keeps referring to the warrant search as a "raid". The language he uses sound like someone who has been robbed. It is meant to reeve up his base. But there is more too it. He genuinely feels like this is his property that has been "stolen".
That's because he was in denial about no longer being president. I am very far from being a Trump supporter. He is a threat to the world. But I don't think he took those documents to sell government secrets to someone else. I think he just took them as mementos as his time as president.
He called himself the "45th President of the United States" while we have a 46th President of the United States. He doesn't used the word "former". Does he know he lost the election? Yes! The election denial is just about exciting the base. But he is having a hard time having been rejected and hated by so many Americans who celebrated his election loss like the fall of a dictator. He's the ultimate in sore losers.
It's well documented that he never respected that the presidency is a temporary job. It also is well documented that he is horrible at being responsible with sensitive documents. He doesn't think these documents belong to the national archives because they are addressed to him.
He's wrong. They are addressed to a president. He is no longer the president. Does he have a massive amount of debt due? Yes. Selling these documents would pay that off. But he has unethically obtained campaign cash for that.
This wasn't someone stealing government secrets to sell. This was someone trying to take memories from a time in their life. But it was a highly illegal act and, he should be found guilty of these very real and very dangerous crimes. He may not have sole them. But others had access to these documents and lacked the sentimental connections. This is a massive national security risk and, he should be barred from ever holding office again.
Trump is a sad, old, pathetic man Drowning in lawsuits and debt, he has nothing left but to complain about what doesn't go his way. A cautionary tale about why even if you are rich, it's out right negligent parenting to let your child feel like the laws don't apply to the rich and they should always get their way even at someone else's expense.
