A Covid Summer

Most of us have either started planning our summer, or are living the summer plans we made earlier. Across the country states are in different stages or infectious rate and openness. NJ is opening faster then we should. But, at least distancing is still a requirement and our numbers are still going down. We are prepared for some modified summer fun. That carries different comfort zones for different people.

Usually, we take a vacation week in the summer in Ocean City, NJ. We technically can do that this year. But, all of us are still nervous about catching it. So, we are staying at my parents house for a four day weekend while my parents stay somewhere else that is safe. We are calling it "C. Resort" Resort because it does have a pool and a slip n slide.

Yes, a pool. We usually join the town pool. Technically, we can this year. But, we are all still nervous about catching it. So the family sized blow up pool at my parent's house is our town pool for this year. I pop on a swim dress because, you know, neighbors and we have family swim, kid swim, and a nice and quiet adult swim. Link to the pool below.

So far, it has actually been fun. We also "booked" my parent's house for 4th of July weekend. We have been quarantining together making this a reasonable and safe option. My parents are also hosting a short "Camp C." for Zach. A different topic every Tuesday - Thursday for three weeks. Social Justice is one of the topics, thankfully!

We have 4 pictures on our fridge from each vacation. Zach swimming, Zach and me (usually in the pool), Zach playing mini-golf, and Josh and Zach on the boardwalk. This year, we are doing: Zach in the pool, Zach and me in the pool, Zach in the slip and slide (from Grandma C), and Josh and Zach together at the slip and slide. All during vacation later in the summer.

I have learned how to use the outside grill in anticipation for some cooking when we stay at C Resort. We also have pre-shopped and will have a tube to "shop" from during vacation. One thing each for the two days we are there for the full day. Just like shopping on the boardwalk! That's the inspiration. "Would you buy this on the boardwalk?" Local small businesses and Amazon are our best places so far.

We are trying to make this summer as much fun as possible and as safe as possible. So far, it has been. We are lucky to have access to resources and people that make that possible. Zach even enjoyed his drive by birthday party. Let's make this a safe and fun summer. Just because the law says you can do something doesn't mean you should. But, you can still have fun!
