Year Round Garden Layout Updated

I've noticed a popular post continues to be Year 'Round Garden Planning where I posted an old layout of my garden plans. While it's still being modified, this is the currently layout for those interested. Since there may be some readability issues here is the acrobate reader version on the layout. In the other post I mentioned the Foresythia flowers. Remember, that is now Zach's garden.

My Pachysandra is L shaped but between too many woodchips and a lot of wetness too much of it developed a fungus. There are a lot of gray/brown/black circles on leaves and a lot of eaten leaves. I already planned on removing the bottom part and replacing it with 2 stella d'oro Daylilies and 3 Daffodils but I now decided to remove the vertical part and replace it annually with Impatiens. You might remember me mentioning my Mom's Impatiens.

Edit 3/28/13: This morning I spent an hour removing the Pachysandra and woodchips. That includes wood chips around the bulbs and in the new bed in front of my neighbors where I will plant daylilies. I researched mulch. What killed the Pachysandra was that too much mulch meant the top layer was dry and the bottom was forever wet. The right nutrients weren't getting down there. The condo board likes for everything to look uniform meaning I get new woodchips this year. Judging from next week's weather prediction they might come some time then to lay down the new stuff. Now in the planting areas there will only be the new stuff. 2" - 4" is the healthy amount for mulch so while it's good to lay some down every year you need to remove the old stuff first. Clearly, that's something this company doesn't do. Now we're ready for healthy flowers even with the uniformed new woodchips.

The garden she gave me is shadier then I thought so I recommended Hostas. That was four months ago. I talked to the nursery owner yesterday and she recommended Hostas too. My Mom wants to see them this Summer but I have little doubt that next year we will be putting in Hostas. They are other part shade flowers I wanted to have but don't have a place for (most of the Pachysandra is under a Shrub so I really need something short for there). It's made me learn a lot about soil. I've been enjoying it.

As Spring progresses I will post pictures. I love tending my flowers again. Yesterday I spend half an hour out there in my and Zach's gardens cutting the frostbitten leaves from the flowers. I saw some new flowers budding too! Currently I am in Spring 3 which looks like this:
