Just Like Mommy

Zach, lately, has been acting like me and trying to wear my things. As I type this, he is walking around the living room trying a bunch of my shoes, including heals. He also tried to put my sky cast on earlier. The sky cast is my cast. He took me by surprise earlier.

The first thing he did this morning was pick up my cell phone, open it, and start saying, "No, no" because I do that a lot when conducting phone related business. His voice was just like how I do it too. He holds the phone against his shoulder and cheek like I do because I need both my hands free.

It's adoring to watch. I'm a major influence in his life and have always been careful about what I do or say around him knowing that kids are more likely to copy actions then follow verbal examples. The "do as I say not as I do" thing I a load. Any parent will tell you it's more "do as I do not as I say". I read an article in ParentDish http://www.parentdish.com about a mom who always wears makeup and her daughter always wants to wear makeup (a little girl). She doesn't want her to feel like you need makeup to be beautiful. That's not the message the daughter is getting.

The wearing my heals part was disturbing to Josh. He imitates Josh too. He loves to wear Daddy's hats, football jerseys, shoes and glasses. The shoes are his favorite. Sometimes he's like a mini-daddy. I'm glad that the influences in his life are positive, with the exception of when my mother walks in the street even when there is a sidewalk.
