Ah, July! Just when you think things have calmed down because school is over, July hits. That means 4th of July parties, camp, and really a whole lot of things. I don't know about you, but even when something is actually done, it doesn't feel done to me. It's incomplete complete.
Take today. I have been over-exercising lately and am achy all over. It was time for a day off. So, what should I do when Zach is in camp until 11:40? I went shopping for all of his school supplies. Technically, the only thing we have left on the list is to find his art class shirt from last year. So, the list is complete! I got extras for home and everything! Yet, I can't shake this feeling that there will be something else he needs. It's okay. I'm ready for it. I put tax refund money aside for supplies. No biggie. It's there for anything that comes up during the year. You never know when he'll need graph paper even though it wasn't on the supply list! Scissors weren't on the list either. A completed list that somehow is still incomplete.
Okay, maybe that nagging incomplete feeling is over school cloths. I doubt it. We don't specially buy him cloths for school each year. We shop as he gets closer to needing a bigger size. That's a separate budget I have used a lot of lately!
9 year old Zach is 4' 7", 72 pounds and has had a couple of major growth spurts lately. He's been big boys Large (14/16) for two years and a size S(8) bottoms for about two and a half. It's been a long time since I've had to do this kind of clothing shopping!
I know what he likes. I've been ordering them through Kohls with coupons and Zach is thrilled with each thing that arrives. He's now in a medium underwear but they run a little small so I knew that would be the first bottom he would need a bigger size for. He's closing in on moving up to XL (18) shirts and M (10/12) bottoms. He's just not fully there yet. So, I have a duffle bag full of sleeveless t-shirts, hoodies, and short sleeve t-shirts. I am adding pants, shorts, pajama bottoms, and outerwear as they arrive. Long sleeve shirts and a coat will wait until the fall. At his current growth rate, I am betting he'll need them before halloween!
Another incomplete complete. Even once the rest of his wardrobe is set, I have to keep a careful eye on shoe size. Bigger sneakers, socks, and cleats might also have to be added in the next few months too. He's been a 4Y since last fall. The 4Y flip flops look comfortable. But, for how long? He very well might be finishing August with slightly small swimsuits! I'd like to say once everything ordered, as well as the long sleeve shirts, coat, shoes, socks and swimwear arrives his wardrobe will be complete. But, somehow, there is always something and it's incomplete. My guess is he'll get the swimwear in the spring in time for his pants to have holes and need to be replaced. Always incomplete.
There are other projects under that category. I am almost complete with my hats and wraps project. I have two more things. The spring poncho for my parents house and a snow day wrap. Won't it be complete after that? YES! The incomplete part comes from my consistant desire to find new projects.
We all have things in this category. Some projects, even when done, just don't feel done. Will it feel complete when Zach gets home on his first day of school? Probably not. Because you never know when the teacher will send that email. "We have this project. They need this and that for it. But, don't buy anything! We don't want you to spend money on it! Even though you are unlikely to have any of it at home and can't actually do the project without them! Thanks for your support!"
