What Happened To Sarah

Sarah Huckabee Sanders was kicked out of the Red Hen restaurant in Virginia. At this point, that is no longer news. What has followed within the democratic party is a debate about if it was the right thing to do or not.

Personally, I am torn. I would have been in the "go high and don't do that" crowd. Except, the supreme court recently allowed a baker to refuse to make a cake for a gay couple because he's homophobic. And in April two black men were kicked out of Starbucks for doing what 80% of people in Starbucks do simply because they are black. And Sarah lies …………… a lot. Seriously, woman, do some fact checking before stepping in front of a microphone!

Look, if we are talking about a regular republican voter I would say to let them be unless they start disturbing the meals of other customers. That's true for democratic voters too. But, Sarah is different. Sarah supports and participates in her own way in encouraging prejudice behavior. She never came to the defense of those black men or that gay couple. I honestly think if she owned a restaurant she would be the one kicking people of color out. So, it's hard for me to sympathize with her.

I'm still undecided about it. "Going high" has not helped us much lately. Perhaps it is time to get mean. Play their game at their level. Which is the best way to win over voters? Some people think we have gone easy on the GOP. Others think we are more likely to be heard by not being like them.

At it's core, this is what it really was about. Giving her a taste of her own medicine. She is overly privileged. Having not experienced the kind of prejudice her victims experience. So this restaurant owner wanted to make her feel what she makes those immigrants feel every time she talks...…..or makes an odd face.

That part I do support. I think experience changes minds. There are a lot of minds that need changing. Voter minds as well as politician minds. They are driven by fear. They should learn what it's like to have people bully you. To have people support laws that are designed to harm you. I support that she was forced on a small, harmless, and legal level to experience the same things she encourages be inflicted in a much worse way on too many people.

I don't support doing this to everyone who has different beliefs from you. The world is stronger with active listening and compromise. I think my final opinion is that I do support that she was kicked out of that restaurant. But, I am concerned about what further actions might follow. This was something small. But, we can't let it get out of control either.
