Trump Indicted: What Now?

Manhattan District Attorney, Alvin Braggs just won round 1. A grand jury decided to indict Donald Trump. He said it was coming last Tuesday. Recent articles stated sometime in mid-April. I think the April date was a decoy. After Trump's antics the first time, Trump and his lawyers had to be left out until the last moment. No fundraising prematurely here!

We've heard it a lot but here is the summary. Trump told Stormy Daniels he would get her on his show if she slept with him. I know that from articles from 2016. She slept with him. His "fixer", Michael Cohan, paid her with personal money right before the 2016 election to keep the affair secret. Later, Cohan did jail time for this. But Trump was president and sitting presidents don't do jail time. Trump paid Cohan back labeling the expense "legal fees". So, he violated campaign finance laws with the bribe and covered it up with falsifying records. A minor level felony.

Personally, I don't think this is all Braggs has on Trump. He would need something that a Trump supporter can't innocently explain away. There is a bombshell in that file, I can sense it. This is too small a case to do this over. There is more. I await the unsealing of charges.

But that is the interesting next part. Trump is at Mara-Largo in Florida. A normal person would quietly turn themselves in out of the public eye. But Trump thinks the law doesn't apply to him ever and likes the media attention. So, I'm guessing he goes on the run or tries to not be arrested.

Private plane to a non-extradition country? He wants to be president again so, no.

Will he not be home when they come? It might not come to that. First, Florida has to agree to extradite him to Manhattan. This could get tricky. But DeSantis gets "tough on crime" credentials by complying. He also gets a strong "I am Trump without the embarrassing legal stuff" credentials too. At the same time, refusing to extradite gets the notice of Trump supporters. The extradition part might prove to be a lot harder than it should be. Trump is counting on that.

I can't imagine him being able to slip past his secret service agents anyway. But it is well documented that there are some Trump supporting secret service agents. What happens to them if they get in the way of his arrest? I assume they get fired.

Yes, I think eventually there will be Trump on camera in handcuffs with his lawyers nearby looking embarrassed and frightened in the background. After all, you don't need facts on Fox news but, you very much need facts in the court room. Trump denying the affair with no proof it didn't happen screws them over completely! "There is no baby" will not fly with a judge.

Trump made one tactically bad error screwing over another upcoming case. An argument his lawyers in the insurrection case are using is that he didn't INTEND to start the insurrection. If they tried the republican "tour group" argument in court the judge would very much not accept that argument.

But a couple of weeks ago when Trump had his "getting arrested Tuesday" fundraising gambit he was quite blunt about what he wanted his supporters to do. You can't deny intention when the person is question is firmly proven to have done the same thing multiple times. That intention might make a big different in the charges brought in that case.

What happens in trial? Finding an acceptable jury might prove challenging. Will it be a hung jury? Maybe. There is no way he will plead "guilty". This trial might be bigger than the OJ Simpson trial. One side has solid evidence. The other has verbal claims from a psychopath and 0 evident to back them up. Frankly, that might be Trump's best defense. Claim insanity and have a Psychiatrist sit on the stand and outright say, "yes, he is insane, psychotic, and delusional". Of course, Trump will never agree to even a psychological evaluation. The delusional denial again.
